JUPITER SUN/
Jupiter Sun EP/ I Wish I Was a Slumberland: "Not all San Jose bands
have the urge to sound a little Vedder, er, better than the rest. Jupiter Sun is
more reminiscent of jangly, guitar-based pop like the La’s, the Shoes or even
the Stone Roses. A long moment of feedback opens this EP before dog piling into a
lush world of fuzzy, melodic power chords. The tunes are satisfying, though a bit
uniform and clean. “Blow Up” and Headlight Beam Reaction” contain all elements of
seminal pop-song construction: a jangle here, a buzz there, power percussion
everywhere, breathy vocals by Matthew Murdock even a touch of rocking
glockenspiel and tambourine. My prediction is that if Jupiter Sun adopted faux
British accents, they would go over huge in America. Luckily, with the success of
this pleasing, toe tapping debut, it won’t get to that."
