In Jupiter Sun's
world, Brit Pop isn't a nasty word: it's something to be celebrated.
It's a world where jangly guitars and bouncing basslines play with
baggy rhythms in the strawberry fields overlooking the Waterloo
sunset. A world where the Rickenbacker is King, ruling over his
minion of pop kids. And then there's reality, where none of Jupiter
Sun's finer points -- strong songs, killer melodies, tight rhythms
and an excellent guitarist -- are recognized for the musical virtues
they truly are. The Stone Roses and the baggy-styled bands spawned
by Madchester fever directly influenced this San Francisco Bay Area
band, and they sound proud to wear those influences on their
sleeves. Sadly, Jupiter Sun split up, leaving one fine album and a
sharp EP in their wake.
